As the only museum in the southeast with modern art as the focus of its permanent collection, the Bechtler is dedicated to educating visitors by offering educational resources for people of all ages, with everything from school tours to adult tours, printed gallery guides, lectures, talks, presentations and more.

Using the bechtler collection as a foundation for teaching in and through the visual arts, the museum offers programs and resources that provide a context for mid-century modern art and culture. Resources can include online access to curriculum materials to supplement learning before and after touring the museum and special hands-on art activities led by bechtler-trained teaching artists.

Developing and maintaining an active system of educational programs is paramount to the mission of the museum With a wide variety of interactive programs for age groups K-12, the museum's educational offerings blend inquiry with conversation to develop critical thinking and art appreciation.

All school-based programs are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and are led by museum docents and staff.
