Senior Programming

Senior Programming provides museum tours and creative experiences exploring current exhibitions. During these programs, seniors can be creative and playful, allowing for improved cognition, increased self-esteem and reduced depression and anxiety. By engaging in the therapeutic process of artmaking and art viewing, participants share creative new experiences and are able connect socially to others. The Bechtler Museum partners with Charlotte-area community centers and senior living centers to bring individuals who live in or utilize these facilities to the museum and/or provide onsite programming using virtual tours to share the joys of modern art and artmaking with senior members of the museum’s community. Programming for the 2021 – 2022 fiscal year will explore Bechtler exhibitions including Isaac Julien: Lina Bo Bardi – A Marvellous Entanglement, where participants will view the film installation and participate in Afro-Brazilian movement and percussion. Participants will also view The Bechtler Collection and Jean Tinguely: A Life in Motion which will give them a sense of the museum's collection. Finally, they will learn about Annemarie Schwarzenbach: Departure without Destination followed by creative programming with local photographers and artists.
