Architecture + Film
LOCATION: WELLS FARGO AUDITORIUM
The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art launches the Architecture + Film series on September 16. Developed in conjunction with the Charlotte chapter of the American Institute of Architects, this new program investigates themes in modern and contemporary architecture through the lens of film.
On September 16, the museum will screen Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman. An open discussion led by Charlotte-based architectural photographer Tim Buchman will complement the screening. The film begins at 7 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Auditorium (lower level of the Knight Theater adjacent to the Bechtler), with a preceding reception in the Bechtler lobby at 6 p.m.
Through his photography, Shulman documented the rise of southern California’s modernist architects including Richard Neutra, John Lautner, Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry. Buchman's talk will highlight themes including the relationship between architect and photographer, the challenges faced by architectural photographers and the process involved in photographing buildings.
Tickets are $15 and are inclusive of light hors d’oeuvres, a drink ticket and access to Bechtler galleries through 9 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online, by phone 704.353.9200 or at the Bechtler visitor services desk.
