Jazz at the Bechtler
LOCATION: LOBBY
JUNE 7
CONCERT IS SOLD OUT.
The Ziad Jazz Quartet celebrates some of the most original and innovative tunes in the jazz repertoire from one of America’s finest composers and bandleaders -- Duke Ellington.
Nicknamed “Duke” by his friends for his dapper attire, casual manner and noble-like composure, Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington carried the smooth moves of his youth into his career. Working as a bandleader, composer and recording artist for more than 50 years, Ellington was known for combining musical genres such as minstrel, ragtime, blues and classical. He remains one of the greatest American musicians of the 20th century for daring to push boundaries and change melodies and song constructions in ways that had not been done before. Ellington composed more than 3,000 songs, which earned him 13 Grammy Awards, and played more than 20,000 performances around the world.
Songs including Take the “A” Train, Satin Doll, In a Mellow Tone, It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing), Prelude to a Kiss and Sophisticated Lady will be performed by Ziad Rabie (saxophone), Noel Freidline (piano), Ron Brendle (acoustic bass), Brian Sullivan (drums) and Tyrone Jefferson (trombone).
