Jazz at the Bechtler
AUGUST 1 AT 6 AND 8:15 PM
The Ziad Jazz Quartet plays tribute to Freddie Hubbard during the August 1 Jazz at the Bechtler concerts. Song selections will include Red Clay, Birdlike and Crisis.
In the pantheon of jazz trumpeters, Hubbard (1938-2008) stands out as one of the boldest and most inventive artists of the bop, hard-bop and post-bop eras. Although influenced by titans such as Miles Davis and Clifford Brown, Hubbard ultimately forged his own unique sound – a careful balance of bravado and subtlety that fueled more than 50 solo recordings and countless collaborations with some of the most prominent jazz artists of his era. Down Beat magazine described him as “the most powerful and prolific trumpeter in jazz.”
Concerts are performed at 6 and 8:15 p.m. Each concert is performed without an intermission in the museum lobby.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. show and at 7:45 for the 8:15 show. Seating is first come, first served. Standing room only is available after all seats are claimed.
