The Ziad Jazz Quartet pays homage to virtuoso jazz guitarist Joe Pass during the April 3 Jazz at the Bechtler concerts. Song selections include Joe’s Blues, Catch Me and C.E.D.

Joining the quartet for this concert is guitarist Andre Ferreri, whose signature style combines the sound and energy of rock with improvisational jazz. He's performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in concert with Deana Martin and Jennifer Holliday and has been a session player on albums for Maurice Williams, General Johnson and Brook Benton among other well-known artists. Ferreri is a member of the instrumental jazz band The Brubakers and writies and produces music for movies, television and radio.

Pass (1929-1994) is considered one of the greatest jazz guitarists of the 20th century. Sometimes referred to as the “Art Tatum of Guitar,” Pass was renowned for his technique, influencing such artists as Pat Metheny and George Benson. Largely a studio and television sideman in the 1960s, Pass’s career blossomed after being signed by Norman Granz in 1970, who produced Pass's acclaimed solo album Virtuso. Pass teamed with Oscar Peterson and Niels Pedersen earning a 1975 Grammy Award for The Trio and opportunities for Pass to work with jazz greats including four albums with Ella Fitzgerald.

Special guest: Pass's son, Joe Passalacqua, is scheduled to attend each concert and will provide remarks about his father.
