Milestones

"Milestones is as close to a perfect jazz album as any I can think of, offering the best of everything I want out of fifties bop: brilliant soloing from the cream of the crop, instantly catchy tunes at zippy tempos driven by a crack rhythm section, and above all, it is unutterably cool." - Matt Groom from Presto Jazz

On Friday, March 6 the Ziad Jazz Quartet with special guest artists Ron Brendle, Kobie Watkins on drums, Lynn Grissett on trumpet, Sam King on alto sax, and Sean Higgins on piano, perform the historically notable 1958 album, Milestones. A  Columbia Records studio album by American jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis, recorded with his momentary sextet line-up of Julian `Cannonball' Adderley (alto sax), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Red Garland (piano) and the peerless rhythm section of Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums). This album consists of a collection of ingenious up-tempo blues tunes that were very much part of the hard-bop period in which it was recorded.

Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Davis adopted a variety of musical directions in a five-decade career that kept him at the forefront of many major stylistic developments in jazz. Born and raised in Illinois, Davis left his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City and made his professional debut as a member of saxophonist Charlie Parker's bebop quintet from 1944 to 1948.
