Jazz at the Bechtler: Post Holiday Blues

Jazz at the Bechtler: Post Holiday Blues

LOCATION: BECHTLER MUSEUM OF MODERN ART

FRIDAY, JANUARY 7 AT 6 AND 8:15 PM

There's no reason to stop celebrating after the ball drops on New Year's Eve! A night at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art makes for a perfect post-holiday date night or a way to entertain family members still in town after the dust and tinsel settle.

Join us for Post-Holiday Blues and start the New Year on the right note with the Ziad Jazz Quartet, featuring Ziad Rabie (saxophone), Noel Freidline (piano), Kevin Beardsley (bass), and special guests drummer Kobie Watkins (drums), and Andre Ferreri (guitar).

Get to know Kobie Watkins and Andre Ferreri

Drummer Kobie Watkins has toured or recorded with Sonny Rollins, Kurt Elling, Curtis Fuller, Arturo Sandoval, George Coleman, Ira Sullivan, and Sonny Fortune.

Guitarist Andre Ferreri’s signature style combines the sound and energy of rock with improvisational jazz. He's performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in concert with Deana Martin and Jennifer Holliday. He has been a session player on albums for Maurice Williams, General Johnson, and Brook Benton, among other well-known artists. Ferreri is a member of the instrumental jazz band The Brubakers and writes and produces music for movies, television, and radio.

Andre Ferreri has chosen to return to his passion for trad jazz, bebop and swing and has graced us with a spirited and soulful, multi-mood driven album with his “Quintetto” whose title Numero Uno is quickly climbing the jazz charts. Ferreri’s longtime associates that form the core “Quintetto” include tenor saxophonist Ziad Rabie, who helps bring out the intensity of the emotions throughout the project, acoustic bassist Anna Stadlman and pianists Mark Stallings, Phillip Howe and Sean Higgins. Ferreri also worked for the first time with Kobie Watkins, a well-traveled world class drummer who has skinned for everyone from Kurt Elling and Arturo Sandoval to Sonny Rollins.
