June’s Jazz at the Bechtler performance pays tribute to one of the biggest and most recognizable names in all of jazz: John Coltrane. The Ziad Jazz Quartet will focus particularly on Coltrane’s 1965 releases for Impulse! Records, Crescent and A Love Supreme. These two albums, recorded just two years before Coltrane’s passing, are regarded as some of his best work, while A Love Supreme is also seen as one of the greatest albums of all time, jazz or otherwise.
Expect the Ziad Jazz Quartet to play A Love Supreme in its entirety, and most of Crescent as well. These two albums represented a spiritual awkening of sorts in Coltrane's music.
