Modern Mondays programs provide an opportunity to interact with museum professionals, scholars and others who present a deeper understanding of works in the collection and on exhibition at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. In connection to the British Invasion exhibition, the Bechtler presents the gallery talk Hockney: The Development of Self in Art on December 15.
Mike Watson, artist and Fashion Marketing Instructor at the Art Institute of Charlotte, will discuss the emergence of the self in Hockney’s art, how Hockney's work in the 1960s and ‘70s revealed the artist to the viewer, and how this constant emphasis on his own gaze was a means to gain insight and simultaneously scan the environment in which Hockeny lived.
Watson has been recognized as one of Charlotte’s 25 most stylish people by Charlotte Style magazine. He's created his own clothing line, styled for major retailers, won national awards for visual merchandising and store design, and has lead a variety of creative and fashion-focused workshops. He has also served as emcee of TEDx Charlotte and host of the Charlotte ADDY awards.
Modern Mondays programs offer a cash-bar reception at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $4 for museum members and $8 for non-members. Buy Tickets (Tickets may also be purchased by phone 704.353.9200 or at the admission desk.)
