Modernism+Film Presents | Brasilia: Life After Design

Brasilia: Life After Design

The Bechtler presents the 2017 documentary Brasilia: Life After Design. History, urbanism, and architecture blend together through the human-interest stories of citizens of Brazil’s capital city, Brasilia. The city’s architecture and urban plan represent the spirit and political climate of midcentury Brazil right as Lina Bo Bardi arrived on the scene. This contemporary look into life in what was meant to be an ideal city presents an exciting comparison to Isaac Julien: Lina Bo Bardi - A Marvellous Entanglement, on view in the museum’s galleries.

UNC-Charlotte faculty members Jose Gamez and Oscar de la Torre will offer brief remarks before the film to provide additional context on the past and present of architecture and urbanism in Brazil.
