Music and Museum
LOCATION: FOURTH-FLOOR GALLERY
JANUARY 25 AT 6 PM
The Bechtler's Music and Museum program presents the concert New Modern: Music Inspired by the Bechtler Collection on January 25. The Bechtler Ensemble will perform new compositions to commemorate the 5th anniversaries of the museum and the Firebird sculpture.
Local composers Craig Bove, Ron Parks, Mark Lewis and John Allemeier have written works that reflect the museum’s majesty and the mythological musings of the Firebird.
Bove debuts Risen. Parks debuts Reflections and Lore to symbolize the visual impact and lore of the Firebird. Lewis pays tribute to Stravinsky’s ballet and reimagines the Lullaby Suite with new dissonances and harmonies in his Lullaby composition. Allemeier will showcase Lazarus for String Quartet which includes a mix of traditional string orchestra music combined with the American folk song Lazarus.
Performances by Peter DeVries (violin), Angela Story-Watson (violin), Mila Gilbody (violin), Matthew Darsey (viola), Tanja Bechtler (cello), Tom Hildreth (bass), and Tomoko Deguchi (piano) will be conducted by Alan Yamamoto.
