Visits to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art may be enhanced through specialty tours based on important aspects of the collection and museum. These tours will often be announced in advance but will usually be scheduled on a day by day basis. Check with the reception desk about tour availability.
WORKS BY ARTISTS CLOSEST TO THE BECHTLER FAMILY
This tour focuses on the work of Alberto Giacometti, Jean Tinguely and Joan Miró, all of whom were intimates of the Bechtlers.
SCHOOL OF PARIS
This tour focuses on a slate of extraordinary artists including Marino Marini, Hans Hartung and Alfred Manessier. Tours will provide additional insight to the accomplishments of the great modernists in Europe after World War II.
MUSEUM ARCHITECTURE
This tour will reveal the ideas behind Mario Botta’s design of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. It will discuss the selection of materials, disposition of spaces, and dynamic relationship between interior and exterior spaces of the museum building.
HELLO MODERN
This short tour highlights key components of modern art by examining the interconnectivity between artists and/or art mediums in the Bechtler collection. The tour is designed to offer the viewer a concentrated look at the collection and is perfect for the first-time museumgoer.
